Benjamin J. Davis of Prairie Village, Kan., passed away on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 2018 at the age of 92. Ben graduated from Fort Scott Junior College in 1947, then later went on to earn his master’s degree in education from Pittsburg State University. His first teaching job was in Metz, Kan., where he taught social studies, physical education and was a coach. Ben also taught and coached at Osawatomie, Shawnee Mission East and Shawnee Mission South high schools, and Meadowbrook Junior High School. He retired in 1974 and opened up Gilben Cards & Gifts and Art Gallery, located on State Line Road. Ben was passionate about teaching, coaching basketball, football and track. He was also a long time member of Greater Kansas City Dalia Club and a longtime antiques dealer.

Ben is preceded in death by his parents James and Liddia Davis; brothers, H. Herb and Melvin T. Davis and sisters, Mary N. Bissenden, Margurite P. Smith, Cleta M. Ogle and L. Juanita Marsh. He was a dear uncle and friend to many, and will be dearly missed by all who knew him. Family and Friends wish to express their gratitude for the special care they received from The Forum at Overland Park, KU Medical Center, Ward 4500 and St. Luke’s Hospice House.

Funeral Service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 4, 2019 at Overland Park Funeral Chapel, 8201 Metcalf Ave., Overland Park, KS 66204. Interment in Fort Scott National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan.
