Ecks earn medals for Uniontown

EMPORIA — Uniontown’s wrestling team sent two of its members here Saturday to give them tests against competitors from larger schools at the Emporia Tournament.

Freshman Bryce Eck finished in third place at 132 pounds. He drew a first-round bye before pinning Conner O’Donnell, a junior from Topeka, in the quarterfinals.

In the semifinals, Eck met Seth Doud of Goddard-Eisenhower, who is ranked No. 6 in Class 5A by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association. Doud won by pin and then went on to beat Caleb Streeter of Lawrence-Free State in the finals, 12-4.

Eck moved to the back side of the bracket, where he pinned Anthony Petrusky of Junction City. He took a 10-0 decision from Colby Smith of Atchison County in the third-place match.

Junior Colt Eck, ranked No. 2 in Class 3-2-1A at 152 pounds, drew a first-round bye. He lost to Eisenhower’s Dayne Holmgren by a 7-2 score in the quarterfinals. Holmgren went on to beat Patrick Graebner of Hutchinson in the final.

Moving to the back side, Eck pinned Malachi Daniels of Lawrence-Free State. He also pinned Tanner Tibbets of Emporia. In the consolation semifinal, Junction City’s C.J. Neuman took a 7-6 verdict. In the fifth-place match, Eck pinned Elijah Barron of Topeka.
