ALTAMONT — Jordan Hall’s 16-point outing and C.J. Horton’s double-double helped lead Fort Scott High’s boys to a 22-point rout of Labette County in Southeast Kansas League action here Friday night. Prior to that, Labette County’s girls, ranked No. 4 in Class 4A by the Kansas Basketball Coaches Association, dealt the Tigers a 10-point loss.

This was the SEK opener for both Tiger teams. They will both play their first home games Tuesday when Pittsburg drops by for another league doubleheader.

Fort Scott boys 59, Labette County 37.

Following a basket by Labette County’s Seth Jones that bought the Grizzlies within 3-2, the Tigers (1-0 SEK, 1-3 overall) went on to score the next 15 points.

Hall hit a 3-pointer to start the run. Horton scored 4 points and Alec Michaud, making his first appearance of the season after recovering from a collarbone injury during football season, scored the last 3 of the first quarter, including a stickback with 20 seconds to go that made it 16-2.

Hall added the first basket of the second quarter. Clayton Moore scored for LCHS (0-2, 1-5) with 5:37 left in the half, breaking a 9 1/2-minute drought between the Grizzlies’ first two scores.

Hall scored 5 consecutive points and Nick Lawrence converted a 3-point play for the Tigers to make it 26-4 with 48 seconds to go. Moore scored again for LCHS to end the half.

While the Grizzlies fared better offensively in the second half, they still didn’t get to double figures until Anthony Lee converted a 3-point play with 2:25 left in the third. The Tiger lead at that point was 32-11.

Fort Scott led 45-18 after three following Gavin Pytlowany’s 3-pointer at the end of the period.

Horton finished with 13 points for the Tigers, which included a 7-of-8 performance at the free-throw line, and grabbed 11 rebounds. Lawrence added 10 points for Fort Scott.

Ethan Jamison led Labette County with 11 points.

Pytlowany led the Tigers in the junior varsity game with 11 points. Fort Scott won 45-43 after rallying from as many as 20 points behind.

Labette County girls 39, Fort Scott 29.

Ella Beth reached double figures for the fourth time in as many games but her effort was not enough to prevent a Tiger loss.

Labette County (2-0, 5-1) scored the game’s first 8 points before Beth got the Tigers on the board with her 16th 3-pointer of the season with 4:10 to go in the quarter.

Dae Dae Norman scored with 10 seconds left to bring the Tigers (0-1, 0-4) within 11-6 at the first break. Justice Brackney scored the first 4 points of the second quarter for LCHS but those baskets came more than three minutes apart as the scoring pace slowed.

Ciarra Stumfoll brought Fort Scott within 17-10 at the half and also scored the first basket of the third quarter to cut the deficit to 5 points.

Labette County grew the lead back up to 28-18 before Beth scored a layup to close the third. The Grizzlies scored the first 5 points of the fourth.

Beth outscored LCHS 7-2 on her own midway through the quarter, another triple trimming the margin to 35-27 with 2:20 to go. From that point on, the two teams combined for a total of 6 points with Fort Scott getting only a pair of free throws by Beth.

Beth finished with 16 points. Only four other Tigers scored, none of them more than 4 points. Beth has scored 71 of Fort Scott’s 118 points this season, 61 percent of the Tigers’ offense.
