Board extends FSCC president’s contract, cites accomplishments

The Fort Scott Community College Board of Trustees showed support for the college president during the board’s Monday meeting.

Following a 20-minute executive session to discuss non-elected personnel, the board returned to open session and Trustee Bernita Hill motioned to offer a 2-year contract extension to Alysia Johnston, who has been president of the two-year college since 2015. Trustees unanimously approved the motion. Johnston’s current contract expires in June.

There was no discussion on Johnston’s evaluation or contract, but FSCC officials provided the Tribune with a copy of Johnston’s contract, as well as a report of the college’s accomplishments under Johnston’s administration.

“We decided that two years was a reasonable amount of time for us and her, and not just a year-to-year basis,” Board Chairman John Bartelsmeyer told the Tribune Wednesday. “We voted to extend her contract for two more years. We decided that’s what we were going to do.”
