For the second time in Jeff Tadtman’s three seasons in charge of the Fort Scott Community College women’s basketball program, the Greyhounds are off to an undefeated start.

The ’Hounds improved to 5-0 with an 86-58 beatdown of the Bethel College junior varsity Saturday afternoon in their final game of the annual Gladbach Classic. Earlier in the day, Johnson County’s women also remained unbeaten (7-0) with a 108-62 rout of the Sterling College JV.

Fort Scott won the first 11 games of the 2016-17 season — the best start in program history — before finishing 17-9, it’s highest win total since 2006-07.

The Greyhounds were in control early, going out to a 12-4 lead as they hit on 5 of their first 7 shots from the floor. They led 21-12 after one period.

A 9-2 run made it 32-17 with 5:26 left in the first half. Bethel’s only scoring in the run came on a pair of free throws.

A 6-2 run to end the half, capped by JonN’a McDonald’s drive with 9 seconds to go made it 43-29 at the half.

A 14-3 run in the third boosted the margin to 62-38 with 2:56 to go. The lead was 64-42 after three.

A 7-0 run to start the fourth capped by a stickback by Tajisha Moore, made it 71-42 with 6:40 left.

All 15 Greyhounds who were dressed out played and 13 of them scored at least 4 points. Moore had a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Jada Perry added another 15. The two combined to make 11 of 16 field-goal attempts.

McDonald scored 11 points for Fort Scott, which made 41 percent of its shots on 30 of 74. The Greyhounds also ruled the boards for a 55-31 advantage and also turned the ball over just 12 times while forcing 21.

The Greyhounds play in the Northern Oklahoma-Enid Classic his weekend.
