FSCC golf program opens in Ottawa tourney

LAWRENCE — Fort Scott Community College’s women’s golf team played in the program’s first tournament here Tuesday and Wednesday.

The women will play both fall and spring schedules with one more event on the agenda Oct. 1 at Friends University in Wichita.

The Greyhounds were one of six schools with scoring teams and finished sixth with a two-day score of 830. Fort Scott shot 416 as a team Tuesday and 414 Wednesday. Bellevue University was the winner with a score of 319-316—635. Kansas Wesleyan was second at 341-349—689 and Park University was third at 355-346—701. Fort Scott was the only community college in the tournament.

Individually, Lily Johnson was the Greyhounds’ top finisher with her scores of 94-95—189, which put her in 27th place. Delaney Watson was next at 103-96—199. Fort Scott High graduate Camiren Defebaugh shot 107-102—209 and Adrian Baldridge shot 112-121—233.

The tournament champion was Belleville’s Kim Moore at 79-78—157.
