George wins high jump

LEON — Uniontown’s Ben George won high jump and qualified for State in another event from the Leon-Bluestem Class 2A Regional Track Meet here Thursday.

Two girls also qualified for State. Samantha Hampton will be going in javelin while Paige Mason advances in high jump.

George cleared 5 feet, 10 inches in high jump and won a tie-breaker over two others. George returns to State in this event.

George also earned a State berth in triple jump with his third-place finish of 40’ 6”. he earned a medal in the 400 meters with a time of 55.62.

The top six finishers in each event earned medals but only the top four advanced to State.

Hampton finished second in javelin with an effort of 105’ 3” while Mason cleared 4’ 8” to finish fourth in high jump.

Mason will be the first of the three Uniontown athletes to compete in the State Championship Meet. Class 2A girls’ high jump is scheduled for 3 p.m. Friday. Boys’ high jump will be at 6:30.

Saturday, George will compete in 2A boys’ triple jump at 11:30 a.m. with Hampton taking part in girls’ javelin at 3 p.m.
