Tiger girls tie for third at Girard

GIRARD — Fort Scott High’s girls finished in a tie for second place at the Girard Optimist Club Invitational here Friday while the boys finished ninth.

Tiger girls tied with Chanute as both scored 55 points. Pittsburg was the winner with 125 points followed by Carthage, Mo. with 115.

Carthage finished ahead of Pittsburg on the boys’ side, 147-84, while Fort Scott scored 23 points.

Paxsten Eads won the girls’ 3,200-meter run for the Tigers as she finished with a time of 11:52.29, about 45 seconds ahead of Chanute’s McKenzie Tabaras. Emma Davis also medaled for Fort Scott with a sixth-place time of 12:55.54 and Macayla McClure was seventh in 13:00.99.

Eads was second in the 1,600 meters in 5:35.09 with Ella Beth third in 5:45.24. Pittsburg’s McKenzie Wilks turned in a time of 4:57.30 in winning, the best time in the state of Kansas this year.

Wilks also turned in the state’s best time in winning the 800, a mark of 2:16.62. Beth was third in 2:33.14 and Gabbie Clements finished fourth in 2:38.63.

Gracie Krokroskia took fourth in the 400-meter hurdles for the Tigers with a time of 49.36 seconds. Addi Lyons placed fourth in triple jump with a distance of 31 feet, 8 1/2 inches.

Fort Scott’s team of Beth, Clements, Lyons, and Krokroskia ran the 4x400-meter relay in 4:28.55 to finish fifth. Clements, Davis, McClure and Gabby Griffin turned in a time of 10:47.15 as they place fifth in the 4x800 relay.

Beth finished sixth in long jump at 14’ 9 1/2”. Humble was sixth in the shot put at 31’ 1 1/2”.

Tiger boys did not have an event winner. The highest finish was recorded by Andrew Callahan, who threw the discus 137 feet, 11 inches to finish third.

Fort Scott’s 4x100-meter relay team of Kyle Montojo, Nick Lawrence, Korbyn Reyes and Gage Lamb finished fourth in 44.58 seconds.

Lawrence was fifth in the 200 meters in 23.99 while Lamb was sixth in 24.19. Lamb also placed fifth in the 100 meters in 11.71. Reyes was fifth in javelin at 139 feet even.

Fort Scott’s 4x400-meter relay team of Lawrence, C.J. Horton, K. Montojo and Dalton Colvin finished sixth in 3:48.90.

Friday, the Tigers travel to Chanute for the final varsity event of the regular season, the Thad Clements Invitational.
