Three Tigers earn medals at Gorilla Relays

PITTSBURG — For members of Fort Scott High’s track and field teams earned medals at the Pittsburg State University Jock’s Nitch Gorilla Relays here Friday.

Ella Beth won two of those medals in running events. She finished sixth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:30.04 and eighth in the 800 in 2:27.76. Pittsburg’s McKenzie Wilks won both of those events, turning in a meet-record time of 2:17.20 in the 800.

Paxsten Eads, who missed a medal in the 1,600 meters by one spot with a time of 5:38.32, took fifth place in the 3,200 meters in a time of 12:00.33. Makenzie Strucker of Raymore-Peculiar, Mo., was the winner in 11:19.27. Eads’ time was the best by a Kansas athlete.

Andrew Callahan was the only Fort Scott boy to earn a medal. He finished fifth in discus with an effort of 150 feet even, best among Kansas throwers. The winner was Nathan Swadley of Willard, who swept the throws, with a mark of 184’ 7”.

Because of the depth of the field of in each event —most having at least 50 competitors — the results for each Fort Scott athlete follow at the end of this summary, not just the medalists.

The Tigers competed Tuesday at Columbus and will host the annual Fort Scott Relays Friday beginning at 3:45 p.m.
