A crew from RFB Construction Co., Inc., of Pittsburg, smooths concrete as it is being poured for a new median Tuesday afternoon on South Main Street (U.S. Highway 69) near the National Avenue intersection. The work is part of a $4.2 million project partially funded by the city of Fort Scott and a Kansas Department of Transportation grant. The street has been widened to include a turn lane. Asphalt work is expected soon and to be completed within two to three days, according to Fort Scott Public Works Director Chad Brown. A new traffic light at the National Avenue intersection will be turned on after striping on the street is completed. The signal will flash for three days before becoming permanently activated, Brown said.
