Tiger girls claim Wellsville Invitational

WELLSVILLE — Fort Scott High’s girls’ cross country team won another team title here Thursday, taking the Wellsville Invitational by nearly 30 points over runner-up Spring Hill.

The Tigers finished with 55 points as they received top-20 points from five runners. Spring Hill had only three top-20 scorers and finished with 83 points with Eudora third with 85.

Paxsten Eads paced Fort Scott with a fourth-place time of 21:30.78 over five kilometers. Hannah Honeyman, a senior from Carbondale-Santa Fe Trail, was the winner in 20:26.83.

Gabbie Clements earned an individual medal along with Eads as she finished in seventh place with a time of 22:05.59. Emma Davis was 19th in 23:02.97 followed by Macayla McClure in 20th in 23:12.43, Berkley Chavis 22nd in 23:21.30 and Skyelar Brown 38th in 25:06.11.

Tiger boys finished sixth as a team led by Gavin Smith’s 14th-place time of 18:47.90. Fort Scott scored 149 points while Eudora was the winner with 71 points.

Connor Mason took 22nd for the Tigers with a time of 19:24.86 while Raymond Harper was 27th in 19:36.56, Nick Shelton finished 32nd in 19:50.39 and Conner Parker was 55th in 20:53.10.

Dallin Bailey of Pomona-West Franklin was the race winner in 16:55.01.

Mya Stewart’s second-place time of 23:50.71 helped lead the girls’ junior varsity to the team title with a score of 24 points. The Tigers got top-10 points from five runners. Eudora was second with 35 points.

Clairissa Vivens finished fourth for Fort Scott with her time of 21:11.62 followed right behind by Madison Jones in fifth in 25:42.21 and Gabby Griffin in seventh in 26:11.13. Dawna Hudiburg finished in 10th place in 27:01.82 with Mackenzie Ragan 13th in 27:09.16, Emily Farrington 22nd in 29:07.52, Kenzie Hardesty 23rd in 29:09.33, Alyx Brooks 25th in 29:24.49, and Melonie Harper 48th in 37:08.24.

Fort Scott’s only runner in the boys’ junior varsity race was Caleb Allen, who turned in a time of 28:47.02 in finishing 68th.

The Tigers have made a change in their schedule for next week as they will compete at Southeast-Cherokee on Thursday.
