Connie Jean Duncan

Connie Jean Duncan, 65, of Fort Scott, Kan., died early Thursday morning, June 1, 2017 at Mercy Hospital Fort Scott. She was born May 31, 1951 in Neodesha, Kan., the daughter of Elza and Doris (Robinson) Holman. She married David Leo Duncan July 15, 1972 in Piqua, Kan.

The journey had been a struggle with a lot of determination, devotion, dedication, patience, forgiveness, hard work, and love. She never knew a stranger and believed in smiles instead of frowns.

She left behind her husband, David, of the home; two sons, Dale Duncan of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Travis Duncan of Fort Scott, Kan.; five grandchildren, Jarad M. Duncan, Augustas D. Duncan, Kylie B. Duncan, Zachery T. Duncan, and Britney A. Duncan; a sister, Judy Stoll, nieces, Judith, Tabitha, Tammy, Rebecca, and Trisha; nephews, cousins, friends, co-workers, many beautiful in-laws, grandchildren’s mothers, Jacki Spangler and Christine Pearson, and a future daughter-in-law, Kellie Hahner; foster parents, Les and Vada Purcell. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, parents, three brothers, Michael Holman, Terry Homan, and Roy Holman; a sister, Linda Holman; foster mother, Norma Kress.

Connie worked in the mental health department in Missouri and Kansas for over 40 years. Some of her hobbies were working with animals, reading, talking, people dancing, socializing, entertaining, giving to others, shopping, music, art, poetry, listening to bagpipes, and having alone time. Wisdom words she would like to leave for others: “To give of yourself, be honest, caring, devoted to family, friends, neighbors; do the very best you can do, be happy with who you are and what you have. The world offers you so many different choices and options, so try something new every day. Variety is the spice of life.”

Rev. Reed Hartford will conduct graveside services at 11:30 a.m. Monday, June 5, 2017, at the West Plains Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan., under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home. Friends and family will meet at the funeral home at 10 a.m. and leave for the cemetery at 11:15 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude’s Cancer Research and left in the care of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home, 15 W.
