Paola, JCN change Regional track schedules
In attempts to beat out anticipated rain and thunderstorms on Friday, officials for the Paola Class 4A Regional Track Meet and Jefferson County North Class 2A Regional Meet have adjusted their schedules.
Fort Scott will be taking part in the Paola Regional, which will still take place on Friday but will begin four hours earlier than originally scheduled. The new schedule has field events starting at 11 a.m. and track preliminaries beginning at 1 p.m. Track finals will begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of the 4x800-meter relay.
There will be a shelter available should a tornado threat become present in the area.
The meet remains on Friday because Paola officials stated in a message passed along to the Tribune that some of the schools would have travel issues on Thursday.
Uniontown will be going to Winchester a day early for the JCN 2A Regional. That has been moved to Thursday with field events beginning at 1 p.m., track prelims at 3 p.m. and track finals 30 minutes after the conclusion of the preliminaries.
According to The Weather Channel, there is a 20-percent chance of rain at Winchester Thursday and a 90-percent chance at Paola Friday.
The JCN Regional is one of five that have been moved to Thursday. Of those that will still be held on Friday (as of press time), at least seven will begin earlier than originally scheduled in the hope of beating the rain.
