Paola sweeps Fort Scott Relays once again

Paola swept the team titles at the Fort Scott Relays for the sixth consecutive season at Frary Field Monday as each team scored over 200 points and combined for 16 event wins and 67 medals.

Both Fort Scott teams finished in fourth place. The girls scored 58 points while the boys scored 46.

Paola’s boys won 37 medals and 12 events in scoring 250 points as they won for the 10th consecutive season. Pittsburg was second with 136 points followed by Nevada with 53.

Panther girls scored 209 points, won six events and 30 medals. Pittsburg won more events, nine, in finishing second with 164.5 points. Taylor Muff and Daeisha Turner each won three medals for the Purple Dragons.

Both of Fort Scott’s event winners were distance runners. Devin Brooks lapped one runner on his way to winning the boys’ 1,600 meters in 4:50.32. He was the only competitor to finish in under 5 minutes.

Paxsten Eads won the girls’ 3,200 in 12:40.52 edging teammate Kelsey Carpenter, who was second in 12:41.93. Emma Davis finished fourth in 13:17.19 and Mallory Westhoff took fifth in 13:20.01.

Carpenter finished second in the 1,600 meters in 5:52.78 with Davis third in 6:08.28. Nevada’s Calli Beshore was the winner in 5:42.30.

Samantha Racy was third in shot put for the Tigers with a heave of 31’ 5 3/4”. Morgan Rohr cleared 7’ 6” as she took fourth in pole vault. Abby Humble claimed fourth in discus with an effort of 85’ 9”.

Fort Scott’s girls’ 4x400-meter relay team finished fifth in 4:43.47. Allen was fifth in javelin with a throw of 86 feet even.

Gabrielle Allen was sixth in the 100-meter hurdles in 18.71 while Gabi Clements was sixth in the 300s in 31.76.

The three events Turner won were the 100 meters (12.96), long jump (16’ 6 1/2”) and triple jump (34’ 4 1/2”). Muff’s triple came in both hurdles (15 flat in the 100s, 47.96 in the 300s) and discus (131’ 8”).

John Montojo finished second in the boys’ 100-meter dash with a time of 11.60 and fifth in the 200 in 24.23. Morgan Stoughton was second in javelin at 147’ 5”, just a couple of feet back of the winner, Jeff Schartz of Paola.

Fort Scott’s 4x100 relay took third in 45.59. The 4x400 relay was also third in 3:49.19.

Connor Fess was fifth in the 800 meters in 2:09.11. Antwaun Martinez was fifth in triple jump with a leap of 38’ 7’ while Jessie Lawrence was sixth at 38’ 5”. Makyn Wade placed sixth in shot put with a mark of 42’ 1 Ό”.

The Tigers also competed at the Girard Optimist Club meet on Friday, winning a total of 11 medals.

Brooks took second in the 3,200 meters in 10:08.23 and fifth in the 1,600 in 4:44.44. Clay Hensley of Carthage, Mo., was the winner of both events, taking the 3,200 in 10:05.02 and the 1,600 in 4:39.19.

Morgan Stoughton was sixth in boys’ javelin with a mark of 134 feet even. Antwaun Martinez was seventh in triple jump with an effort of 39 feet even. The Tigers finished ninth in team standings with 14 points.

Gracie Krokroskia won medals in both girls’ hurdles races. She was fifth in the 300s in 50.62 and seventh in the 100s in 18.39.

Kelsey Carpenter won fourth-place medals in two distance events, running the 1,600 in 5:52.33 and the 3,200 in 12.31.71. Emma Davis was seventh in the 1,600 in 6:00.88 while Paxsten Eads was seventh in the 3,200 in 12:51.84.

Humble placed fifth in discus at 97’ 10”. The Tigers were eighth as a team with 17 points.

Pittsburg won the girls’ team title with 144 points with Carthage second with 136. Carthage scored 166 points in winning the boys’ championship with Webb City, Mo., second with 139.

The Tigers will compete in the Thad Clements Invitational at Chanute on Friday.
