Brooks wins 1,600 at Columbus

COLUMBUS — Fort Scott senior Devin Brooks won the 1,600-meter run at the Columbus Invitational here Tuesday on a day that was otherwise low in the medal count.

Brooks turned in a time of 4:45 in winning the race. Connar Southard of Pittsburg was a close second in 4:48.

Tiger boys won only three other medals as they finished 10th as a team with 15 points. Morgan Stoughton was fifth in javelin at 125 feet, 9 inches. Makyn Wade placed fifth in shot put at 40’ 4 1/2”. And Jessie Lawrence finished sixth in triple jump with a mark of 36’ 8”.

Abby Humble won two of the girls’ six medals as they finished eighth in team standings with 24 points. She finished fourth in discus with a mark of 89’ 9” and sixth in shot put with an effort of 31 feet even.

Paxsten Eads finished second for the Tigers in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 12:58. Gabrielle Allen turned in a time of 58 seconds flat as she placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles. The 4x100-meter relay team finished fourth in 11:24. And Kelsey Carpenter was sixth in the 800 meters in 2:43.62.
