Tiger golfers suffer drop off in 2nd outing

PITTSBURG — In the first Southeast Kansas League designated golf tournament at Independence April 6, Fort Scott High’s team shot a 365 which was good enough for them to lay stake to second place in the league standings.

But here on Tuesday, the Tigers added 5 strokes to their score. That may not seem like much, but their 370 was good for only seventh place at the Pittsburg Invitational, the second SEK tournament, and saw the Tigers fall two places in team standings.

Chanute, the tourney champ with a 317, leads with a two-tourney total of 664. Pittsburg is second at 727 followed by Independence at 729 and Fort Scott at 735.

Nick King just missed medaling, losing a scorecard playoff to Independence’s Corbin Hugo after both shot 83. King shot 40 on the front nine and 43 on the back. Hugo shot 42 going out and 41 coming back in.

Austin Liudahl of Chanute won the tournament’s individual title with his 35-38—73, which also vaulted him into the lead in SEK individual standings with a two-tournament total of 156. Drew Fuentez of Parsons is now in second place at 158 with Chanute’s Cole Wheeler third at 161. King, the league leader going into the tournament, is now tied for fifth with Chanute’s Clete Carlson at 164.

Girard finished second in the tournament even though it didn’t have anyone in the top 10. The Trojans’ 344 trailed Chanute by 24 strokes.

Lucas Harryman was the Tigers’ next-best golfer, finishing tied for 28th with a 43-51—94. Tanner Fox followed at 46-49—95. Brett Pickert finished with a 49-49—98. Hudson Horn turned in a 50-50—100. And Kaleb Guilfoyle shot 58-51—109.

The Tigers’ next tournament is Monday at Woodland Hills Golf Course. This is not one of the SEK designated tourneys.
