FSCC softball takes two outside of division

Fort Scott Community College softball has won just two of its last eight games, both coming over non-conference opponent Mineral Area on Sunday at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex.

Friday: Allen 3-10, Fort Scott 0-7.

Aubrey Smith allowed only one earned run in taking the loss. She walked one and struck out one.

Taylor Brecheisen was the only Greyhound with 2 hits.

Fort Scott never led in the second game as Allen took a 6-1 lead after two innings. The Greyhounds scored 4 runs in the sixth to tie the score at 7-7 but the Devils scored 3 in the bottom of the inning.

Smith and Kylie Pfeiffer were each 3 for 4 for the Greyhounds while Lauren Scott was 2 for 3 with a sixth-inning RBI single that scored Smith with the tying run.

Sunday: Fort Scott 15-17, Mineral Area 9-4.

The Greyhounds led the opener 4-0 after one inning and never looked back. They added 5 in the bottom of the third to make it 9-2.

Jenna Nevius hit her first home run of the season in the fourth, a 3-run shot with 2 out. Scott belted her 10th of the year leading off the sixth.

Nevius was 3 for 4 at the plate, driving in 5 runs. Scott was 2 for 3 and Pfeiffer 2 for 5. Taylor Brecheisen drove in 2.

Smith was the winning pitcher, allowing 6 runs on 10 hits and no walks with a strikeout in the first 5 innings.

The ’Hounds used a 10-run fourth to put game two away. It ended after 5 on the run rule.

Allie Rooks and Kaylan Morgan each hit their first home runs of the season. Rooks’ came with 2 on in the third that made it 7-3 at the time. Morgan’s was a 3-run shot with 2 out in the 4th.

Pfeiffer and Rooks were each 3 for 3 for Fort Scott. Brecheisen, Smith, Scott and Hayley Bledsoe had 2 each. Rooks drove in 5 runs while Morgan knocked in 3 and Pfeiffer, Bledsoe and Scott each brought in 2.

Bledsoe was also the winning pitcher, allowing 4 runs on 6 hits and 4 walks.

Tuesday: No. 11 Highland 7-15, Fort Scott 0-1.

The Scotties (12-4 Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division, 25-7) had 24 hits in the doubleheader at the BRW. The only run for the Greyhounds (5-15, 17-26) scored in the first inning of game two.
