Fort Scott Community College's softball team broke a seven-game losing streak Tuesday when the Greyhounds won the second game of a home conference doubleheader at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex.

Friday, Fort Scott traveled to Independence, where the Greyhounds lost in the bottom of the seventh inning in both games, 5-4 and 12-11. Saturday, they went to Arkansas City to face then-No. 16-ranked Cowley, losing 8-0 and 14-4. Tuesday, they hosted Kansas City Kansas at the Betty Ruth Willard Complex, losing game one 7-5 but breaking their losing streak with an 11-10 win in game two. All three doubleheaders were Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division twinbills.

Tuesday vs. Kansas City.

Fort Scott's rally came up short in the bottom of the seventh of game one. Kansas City went into the inning with a 7-2 lead. Scott followed with a line-drive single to center to score Pfieffer and Jenna Nevius, who was pinch running for Wimp, to make it 7-5.

After a strikeout, Taylor Brecheisen walked to put two on base with two out. But Kansas City pitcher Megan Sumonja (3-2) got Remington to ground out to end the game.

Kansas City scored first in the second game with a Allison Kasick grand slam to make it 4-0. Fort Scott got 3 of those runs back in the bottom of the inning. Kia Boyd led off with a single and Pfeiffer followed with a one-out single in front of Bledsoe's second home run of the season.

Kansas City went back in front again, 10-8, with a pair of runs in the top of the sixth. Smith (4-8), who was the losing pitcher in the opener, came on during the inning and was able to finally shut down the Blue Devil offense. She also pitched a scoreless top of the seventh to finish with 1 2/3 innings of no-hit, no-walk pitching. Smith only threw 11 pitches but 9 of them were strikes.

Rooks led off the bottom of the seventh by drawing a walk. Boyd singled and Morgan walked to load the bases for Pfeiffer, who doubled in Rooks and Boyd to tie the score. Bledsoe followed with a single to bring Morgan in with the game-winning, streak-busting run.
