Large number on water meter a mystery
UNIONTOWN -- Uniontown City officials are checking into an issue City Clerk Sally Johnson said is an "unusual" circumstance concerning a water meter reading.
During their Feb. 14 meeting, city council members learned one meter reading showed a residence had a higher than normal water usage -- 70,780 gallons. The Jan. 19 reading was for a residence at 302 Sherman St.
City staff have investigated and found no leaks and have tested the meter at the residence.
"We're a small town. No one uses that amount of water in a month," Johnson said. "City staff read the meters to see if anything was unusual or maybe we misread it ... I personally read it myself. It's an absentee owner who's only here periodically during the year."
The initial test results indicated the meter meets or exceed standards, which means the meter is not faulty and not the result of the more than 70,000 gallons of consumption between Dec. 21 and Jan. 19, according to meeting minutes.
