Harper breaks Uniontown scoring record in win
UNIONTOWN -- Senior Shalina Harper became Uniontown High School's all-time scoring leader for the girls' basketball program with her 29-point outing against Altoona-Midway in Three Rivers League play here Tuesday night.
Eagle girls took a 65-15 win over the Jets while the boys completed the sweep with a 63-15 win.
Girls: Uniontown 65, Altoona-Midway 15.
Harper now has 1,257 points in her four years as an Eagle. She passed Trisha Eldridge, who scored 1,250 points from 2000-04.
Classmate Holly Shinn added 18 points, grabbed 16 rebounds and handed out 7 assists for Uniontown, which improved to 6-3 in the TRL and 10-8 overall with its fifth straight victory. The Eagles are in third place behind leader St. Paul and second-place Oswego.
"We hope to keep things rolling going into the final games of the regular season," Uniontown head coach Dustin Miller said.
Altoona-Midway fell to 0-8, 0-16. The Jets have lost 53 consecutive league games and 115 straight regular season games (They have won a couple of Sub-State games against teams of like calibre during this run).
Since Midway doesn't have a junior varsity team, the Eagles faced the Christian Learning Center. The Mustangs won 25-24. Harlee Tinsley and Maddie Ard scored 8 points each for the Eagles.
Boys: Uniontown 63, Altoona-Midway 15.
Uniontown (7-2, 12-6) led 22-10 after one and 42-15 at the half. The Jets (0-8, 0-16) did not score a single point in the second half.
Ben George led Uniontown with 26 points while Jez Simpson followed with 10. The Eagles won for the fifth time in their last six games.
Like the girls, Midway's boys are mired in a long losing streak. They've lost 69 straight league games, 119 in the regular season and 85 consecutive overall.
