Fundraiser to help family with expenses

Thursday, December 8, 2016

The Care to Share cancer support group will hold a fundraiser from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday at the Church of the Nazarene, 1728 S. Horton, to help the family of Rushton Hicks with travel expenses to Seattle, Wash., for treatments.

Rushton was born July 14, 2015 and diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. He has been treated since June 5, 2016 at Children's Mercy in Kansas City, without success of remission.

He will be admitted Monday in Seattle to begin four days of intense testing that will allow the team of oncologists to determine the strength and type of chemotherapy he will need to have four weeks prior to a T-cell transplant.

The fundraiser will include pulled pork sandwiches, chips and cookies for a $5 donation. Dine-in, carry-out and delivery will be available.

For more information or to place an order, call Sherry Lakeman at (620) 224-6787, or Lavetta Simmons at 224-8070.

Orders should be placed before 5 p.m. Friday.
