Middle school girls split with Nevada

Fort Scott Middle School girls' basketball won both B games but Nevada won both A games Tuesday night at the FSMS gymnasium.

The seventh-grade B team opened the day with a 23-8 win. Amanda Emmerson and Dylan Hazelbaker each scored 5 points for Fort Scott. Four players scored 2 points each for Nevada.

Fort Scott led 4-2 after one period and made it 8-4 at the half. Nevada scored 2 points in each quarter.

Nevada won the seventh-grade A game, 37-10. The visitors led 8-2 after one period and outscored Fort Scott 16-4 in the second. It was 28-8 after three.

Tarini Williams led Nevada with 12 points while Bailey Ast had 10. Karlie Chipman and Abby Altic each scored 4 for Fort Scott.

Fort Scott claimed the win in the eighth-grade B game by a 21-19 score. Nevada posted a second-quarter shutout in extending a one-point first-period advantage to an 11-4 margin at the half.

Fort Scott won the third quarter 9-2 to tie the score at 13-13. Austin Sinn, who led FSMS with 8 points, gave her team the lead for the first time with 2:53 to go, breaking a 15-all tie. Addy Williams scored the go-ahead-for-good basket with 58 seconds remaining, which put Fort Scott up 19-17.

Eden Fisher led Nevada with 9 points.

Nevada's A team remained undefeated on the season (11-0) with a 32-21 win the final game of the night. Nevada led 10-2 after one quarter and 17-5 at the half.

Tylin Heathman paced Nevada with 13 points. Ella Beth led Fort Scott with 13 points, a total that included two 3-point goals.

Fort Scott's A teams will play in a tournament at Garnett on Saturday.
