Marvel Janet Beerbower
Marvel Janet Beerbower, age 81, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, Oct. 18, 2016, at the Fort Scott Mercy Hospital. She was born Nov. 20, 1934, in Deerfield, Mo., the daughter of Birt Pettibon and Gladys Tetrick Pettibon. Marvel graduated from the Nevada High School with the Class of 1952. She married Nole Beerbower on Nov. 18, 1960, at Fort Scott. In earlier years, Marvel had worked at the Bourbon County Courthouse, Sears and the Western Insurance Company. She then began a secretarial career with the USD 234 School District where she worked at the board office and then at Winfield Scott and Eugene Ware Elementary Schools. She retired in 1996. Marvel lived life to the fullest. She and her husband, Nole, enjoyed traveling and attending area car shows as well as camping. She also enjoyed going to flea markets and garage sales. She maintained numerous collections of items including, stamps, post cards and Fort Scott memorabilia. In later years, she enjoyed keeping in contact with her friends on her computer.
Survivors include two sons, Gil Beerbower and wife, Lana and Todd Beerbower and wife, Sherry; a step-son, Eddie Beerbower and wife, Brenda; and a step-daughter, Pam Korinek and husband, Eldon; four grandchildren, Ryan and Austin Beerbower, Andrew Korinek and wife, Susan and Wendy Korinek and three great-grandchildren, Kyla, Lily and Gage all of Fort Scott. Her husband, Nole, preceded her in death on March 26, 2013. She was also preceded in death by her parents, three brothers, Quentin, Wendel and Stanley Pettibon and a sister, Eloise Nelson.
Rev. Eric Going will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 21 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until service time at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
