After living a life filled with love, family, and adventure, Susan Buffington died on Wednesday, Oct. 12th at the age of 74.
Susan was born in Fort Riley, Kan., and raised in Fort Scott, Kan., the daughter of Raleigh Frank and Mary Virginia (Bates) Austin. She was a talented and award-winning teacher who served the Shawnee Mission school district for more than 30 years. Susan was a loyal friend to all and loving wife to her husband Mike Buffington whom she now joins. Their strong love for one another and for adventure will be missed greatly.
Susan is survived by her daughter, Brenda Walden; son, Bruce Roach, Jr.; step-daughters, Jodi Calvert, Holly Buffington, and Julie LaCombe; and grandchildren, Max, Mitch, and Bailey Walden, Logan and Mason Roach, Alex Lay, Andi Calvert, and Ryan and Chloe LaCombe; and a brother, Kenny Austin of Fort Scott. In addition to her husband Mike, Susan was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Gene Austin.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 21st at Colonial Presbyterian Church at 9500 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO. Burial will follow at a later date at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Scott, Kan., under the direction of the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home.
