Tiger girls claim Iola title

IOLA -- Fort Scott High's girls, boosted by three individual top-10 finishes, won the team title at the Doc Stiles Invitational here Tuesday.

The Tigers finished with 31 points with Nevada second with 44, Iola third with 59 and Anderson County rounding out the list of eligible teams with 95.

Paxsten Eads was Fort Scott's highest finished with a third-place time of 17:36.09 over four kilometers. Mallory Westhoff was fourth in 17:48.57 and Kelsey Carpenter was 10th in 18:06.07. Also earning medals, Lexi Bryant was 13th in 18:10.49 and Emma Davis was 14th in 18:45.94. Also running for the Tigers was Skyelar Brown, who finished in 20:17.44.

Calli Beshore, a Nevada freshman who won the Fort Scott meet on Sept. 8, won this one by almost 20 seconds turning in a time of 16:55.47.

Uniontown's Nikki Bollinger competed, turning in a time of 23:51.72.

Tiger varsity boys were without Devin Brooks and did not have enough runners to compete for team honors, which were won by host Iola. Connor Mason earned a medal for the Tigers by finishing 13th over 4K in 15:55.14. Nick Shelton clocked in at 16:43.79 and Noah Daly finished in 17:09.41.

Uniontown's runners were Jon Harp, who ran a 17:12.01, Luke George, who finished in 18:31.51, and Bailey Sheldon, who turned in a 19:21.35.

Hadley Splechter of Yates Center was the winner in 13:47.71. He won by about 35 seconds.

Nick Deloney win the boys' junior varsity for Fort Scott, finishing in 15:44.99. Nathan Quinn of Anderson County was second in 16:23.27. Fort Scott's Raymond Harper was seventh in 17:19.53, Zack Pryor finished in 21:51.66, Luke Martin in 25:43.51, and Kaden Kiwan in 29:46.37.

Uniontown's lone runner in the race, Michael Goebel, finished in 31:33.64.

Fort Scott's Zoe Self placed 13th in the girls' JV race with a time of 22:35.03 over 4K. Gracie Kroroskia was 14th in 22:35.26, and Alyx Brooks missed a medal by one spot as she finished 16th in 22:44.49.

Also running for the Tigers were Melonie Harper, 27:47.73, Morgan Eaton, 28:42.54, and Mackensie Griffin, 30:01.01.

Both Fort Scott and Uniontown will compete in the Pittsburg Invitational on Sept. 29.
