Gregory Dewayne Post

Gregory Dewayne Post, 46, of Kansas City, Mo., passed away Aug. 8, 2016, at Research Medical Center following an accident. He was born Dec. 29, 1969, in Fort Scott to Cynthia Wheeler Post and Gregory Post. He graduated from Fort Scott High School and Fort Scott Junior College. He later attended Pittsburg State University and Kansas State University at Manhattan.

He is survived by his parents, Cynthia Post of Fort Scott, Greg and Sandy Post of Mapleton, his soul mate, John Mallett of Naperville, Ill., his aunts and uncles, Deborah Post Potter (Bill) of Pittsburg; Fletcher Wheeler (Kay); Shirley Wheeler Burcham (Robert); Rex Wheeler (Lynne) of Fort Scott; Jerry Wheeler (Phyllis) of Onamia, Minn., several beloved cousins and countless friends. His grandparents, Lorene and Faye Wheeler, George Post and Louise Post Bassett, his cousin, Josh Wheeler and his aunt, Sherry Post proceeded him in death.

Greg was an avid learner -- always reading and researching, particularly on the subjects of genealogy and history. He had many lifelong passions -- including art, antiques and traveling. Greg grew to love interior and landscape design, and excelled at doing both. He found great solace when his hands were in the earth. He was a consummate host and entertainer and was always the life of the party.

One of his most defining traits was his protective nature; any friend or family member had a strong and loyal advocate in Greg. Children were one of the greatest joys in his life, especially his godchildren. He always wanted to teach and help any child he encountered.

He had a deep affection for animals, especially his precious dog, Max. As a child, he enjoyed riding horses on his grandparent's farm, including his beloved horse Sir Lancelot. Recently, Greg began working with his father on their cattle ranch.

Greg was a giving person and concluded his time on earth by giving the precious gift of life to many strangers through organ donation. The family encourages everyone to follow this example and commit to be an organ donor.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Aug. 13 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Bristol, 5400 W. 119th Street, Leawood, KS.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Wayside Waifs, www.waysidewaifs.org, or Lee's Claws and Paws, 721 240th St., Fort Scott, Kansas 66701.
