MOREHEAD, Minn. -- Fort Scott took part in the Babe Ruth Baseball Midwest Plains 14-year-old Regional Tournament here last week and came away with an 0-4 record against teams that were, for the most part, from much larger cities.

Fort Scott's first game of pool play was an 8-0 loss to Dexter, a like-sized town in Southeast Missouri, Wednesday morning. Brayden Engstrom, Jacob DeLaTorre, Hunter Killion, Lucas Harryman and Cody Durossette each had one of the team's 5 hits.

Game two on Wednesday was their best game, a 7-4 loss to East Twins, Minn., a team that represents neighborhoods in St. Paul and a few of its suburbs. Fort Scott enjoyed a 2-1 lead briefly after Cole Wollenberg and Rhet Reed scored on a 2-out error in the top of the third inning.

East Twins took a 4-2 lead after five innings. Fort Scott tied the score after Engstrom and DeLaTorre scored on an error in the top of the sixth. But East Twins scored 3 in the bottom of the inning to take the lead for good.

Killion and C.J. Horton each had one of Fort Scott's 2 hits.

Davenport, Iowa, with a population of nearly 100,000, won Thursday's game over Fort Scott, 21-1, in five innings. Reed, Horton, Engstrom and Wollenberg each had one of the team's 4 hits. Cody McNeil scored the lone run in the fourth.

In the team's final game on Friday, Fort Scott fell to West Fargo, N.D., the fifth-largest city in North Dakota with over 33,000 people, by a score of 10-0 in five innings. Guilfolye and Killion had the team's hits.

Kansas state champion Liberal was also a participant in the tournament. They went 1-3 in the opposite pool with their only win coming on Wednesday against North Platte, Neb., 11-5. Liberal lost to Bismarck, N.D., Thursday by a 13-2 count, Moorhead, Minn., later Thursday, 15-2, and to Ottumwa, Iowa, on Friday, 7-2.

Bismarck went on to beat host Moorhead in the championship game on Sunday, 7-0.
