Three one-run games, Indians rout on first day of AA State

The Kansas American Legion AA State Baseball Tournament got underway at Dave Regan Stadium Wednesday with three one-run games and a rout by the host team, the Fort Scott Post 25 Indians.
The Indians (20-17-2) routed Colby Post 363 by a score of 13-5 in the final game of the night, which was stopped in the sixth inning due to the run rule. Chase Brown was 2 for 2 for Fort Scott with 4 runs batted in. He belted a solo home run in the bottom of the first and had a 2-run double in the third.
Colby Page allowed 3 earned runs on 7 hits and 6 walks with 4 strikeouts for Post 25. Brady Holzmeister and Brooks Curry had 2 hits each for Colby (14-16).
Goodland Post 117 led off the tournament with a 3-2 win over Iola Post 15 powered by a 2-run rally in the bottom of the seventh inning. Then Larned Post 106 scored all of its runs in the top of the seventh to overcome Marysville Post 163, 4-3, in game two. In the third game, Doniphan County held on for a 3-2 win over Russell Post 99.
Thursday's schedule will be held in two sessions. The daytime session features two elimination games. Iola (18-14) will face Marysville (29-7) at 10 a.m. Russell (14-9) will face Colby (14-16) at 12:30. The evening session features the winners' bracket semifinals with Goodland playing Larned (15-11) at 6 p.m. and Fort Scott battling Doniphan County (30-2) at 8:30.
