Ann D. Smith, age 93, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Tuesday, July 19, 2016, at Medicalodge of Fort Scott. She was born Feb. 11, 1923, in Pittsburg, Kan., the daughter of Arthur and Minnie Burns Dietz. She married Kenneth Smith on Feb. 26, 1949, in Pittsburg. She worked in the ammunitions plant in Parsons, Kan., during WWII. She also worked at the Kress store. Ann worked for Jack and Jill Preschool, Fort Scott Parks and Recreation, and then USD 234 Board of Education until her retirement. She was an excellent seamstress, sewing many of the girls' clothes. She was a wonderful cook as well. She served as Blue Bird leader, home room mother and Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Red Hat Ladies. She enjoyed watching Wheel of Fortune and eating popcorn, but mostly spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren planning adventures for great fun. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church serving in various capacities. She was awarded honorary membership for faithful service in 2005.
