Rev. Joel David Dunn
Rev. Joel David Dunn, age 63, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at his home. He was born July 19, 1952, in Zebulon, Ga., the son of David Seat Dunn and Florence Elizabeth Allison Dunn. He married Norma Mills on June 13, 1975, at St. Elmo, Ill. Joel had a passion for reading and for learning. He graduated from Pike County High School in Georgia and then received his BRE Degree from God's Bible School in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended Bob Jones University and later received his Masters of Divinity degree from Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, Mo. Joel was a life-long pastor. He preached his first sermon when he was 9 years old. He had preached at numerous Church of God (Holiness), Nazarene and United Methodist Churches throughout the country. He was ordained in the Nazarene Church in 1992. Joel dearly loved his family and was especially proud of his two daughters.
Survivors include his wife, Norma, of the home; and two daughters, Alisha Cox and husband, Rev. Travis Cox of Newton Falls, Ohio and Rev. Sarah Pridey and husband, Chip, of Fort Scott and four grandchildren, Jason, Ashton, Savannah and Gunner. Also surviving is a brother, Charles Dunn, of Zebulon, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Following cremation, Rev. Dr. Dennis Ackerman assisted by Rev. Travis Cox will conduct a memorial service at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 5 at the Cheney Witt Chapel Memorials are suggested to Fort Scott Christian Heights school and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S.
