Roscoe Delaney Mumbower
Roscoe Delaney Mumbower, age 65, resident of Uniontown, Kan., died Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at Mercy Hospital, Fort Scott, Kan. He was born Dec. 15, 1950, in Fort Scott, the son of Robert and Patricia Adamson Mumbower. He graduated from Uniontown High School with the class of 1968. Roscoe was a Marine corporal during the Vietnam War, serving from 1968 until 1972. He had many jobs throughout his life, starting with becoming a professional bass fisherman. He was also a brick layer and tuck pointer. He worked for Peerless Products and retired from Bourbon County Public Works as a road grater operator. He married Cindy Thurston on Oct. 23, 2015. Roscoe had two sons, Shawn Paul Mumbower and Cimeron James "C.J." Mumbower. Roscoe was a member of the Fort Scott Sow Seekers club.
Survivors include his wife Cindy of the home; son C.J. Mumbower and wife Kim, Van Buren, Ark.; step-son Paul Smith and wife Tena, Uniontown, Kan.; step-daughter Becky Miller and husband Ron, Fort Scott; his mother Patricia White, Devon, Kan.; two brothers, Delwin Mumbower and wife Lolita, Devon, and Jeff Leslie, Girard, Kan.; two granddaughters, Ava and Emma; seven step-grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Shawn Mumbower and his father, Robert Mumbower.
Rev. Marty DeWitt will conduct funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 1, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. Military honors will be provided by the United States Marine Honor Guard assisted by the Olson Frary Burkhart Post No. 1165 V.F.W. The family will receive friends Friday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the Chapel. Memorials are suggested to the Devon Rural Fire Department and may be left in care of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, P.O. Box 347, Fort Scott, KS 66701.
