PITTSBURG -- Uniontown's softball team put up a strong effort here Thursday but fell to fifth-seeded Chetopa, 2-1, in the first round of the Colgan Class 2-1A Regional Softball Tournament at Pittsburg State University.

Uniontown (5-16), the No. 4 seed, was originally scheduled to host this game on Monday but rain early in the week caused Colgan officials to move the entire tournament to PSU.

The Eagles scored their only run in the bottom of the first inning. Keely Goodridge led off with a single past third base and Holly Shinn bunted her eay on. Taylor Cooper also singled to load the bases.

Shinn was picked off at second base but while the Hornets were making the play on her, Goodridge ran home.

Chetopa tied the game in the top of the second and scored the go-ahead run in the sixth. The Eagles had the bases loaded with 2 out in the bottom of the sixth but could not score.

Cooper was 3 for 3 at the plate. Danielle Young was 2 for 3 while Goodridge was 2 for 4.

Goodridge allowed one earned run on 5 hits. She walked 5 and struck out 6.

Chetopa went on to lose later in the day to top-seeded Oswego, 10-0.
