John Joseph Campbell

John Joseph Campbell, age 55, a resident of Uniontown, Kan., died Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Mercy Hospital Fort Scott in Fort Scott, Kan. He was born Nov. 22, 1960, in Kansas City, Kan., the son of William Campbell and Betty Owenby Campbell. He graduated from the Uniontown High School with the Class of 1979. John married Nita McKinnis on Sept. 27, 1986, at Uniontown, Kan. In earlier years, he had been employed by the City of Uniontown and Newman Young Clinic. More recently, he had been employed by Big Sugar Lumber Company for over 20 years. John had served on the Uniontown City Council and the Uniontown Rural Fire Department. He liked being outdoors and enjoyed fishing, gardening and mowing his lawn. He also enjoyed spending time with his family and helping others. He attended the First Missionary Baptist Church of Uniontown.

Survivors include his wife, Nita, of the home; three children, Shanda Stewart and husband, David, of Fort Scott, Shannon Bruegge and husband, Scott, of Raymore, Mo., and Luke Shepard and wife, Samantha, of Uniontown; nine grandchildren, Cole, Mya, and Avery Stewart, Ashley and Audrey Bruegge and Kane, Madison, Kinnis and Scotti Shepard. Also surviving are three brothers, Bill Campbell, of Fort Scott, Larry Campbell and wife, Jill, of Uniontown and Bob Campbell and wife, Tami, of Fort Scott; and two sisters, Pat Kite and husband, Jay, of Uniontown and Kathy Taylor and husband, Ray, of Bronson, Kan. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Richard Campbell and a sister, Annette Campbell.

Following cremation, Rev. Marty Dewitt will conduct a memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday, May 13 at the First Missionary Baptist Church in Uniontown. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the Cheney Witt Chapel.
