Hudiburg champ at shortened Girard meet

GIRARD -- Josh Hudiburg won boys' javelin at a storm-shortened Girard Optimist Club Invitational here Friday.

Hudiburg was one of three Fort Scott High medalists in the event, winning with a best throw of 183 feet, 7 inches. Fort Scott's Wyatt Tourtillott was the runner-up at 159' 5" and Morgan Stoughton took sixth at 132' 4".

The Tigers tied for third with Parsons in team standings as each scored 43 points. Carthage, Mo., was the champion with 118 points followed by Pittsburg in a distant second with 65.

Vince Tome was second in the boys' 400-meter dash, turning in a time of 53.77 seconds. Laike Damman of Girard was the winner in 51.42. Tome was also fifth in the 100 meters in 11.38.

Nick Woods took third in discus with a mark of 119' 1" with Hudiburg sixth at 109' 8".

Fort Scott's 4x100-meter relay team took fifth place in 46.45 seconds. Carthage was the winner in 46.39.

Devin Brooks finished in sixth place in the 1,600 meters in 4:50.7 seconds. He didn't get to run his other races as they were cancelled by the storms.

Cassidy Westhoff only ran one race for the same reason. She finished second in the girls' 1,600 in 5:14.2. as two-time defending State champion Callie Logue of Girard was the winner in 5:01.4.

Abby Humble was fourth in shot put with a mark of 32' 3". Fort Scott's 4x800-meter relay team took fifth in 10:58. And Gabrielle Allen was seventh in the 300-meter hurdles in 56.64.

Tiger girls placed eighth in team standings with 16 points. Pittsburg was the winner with 115, one point ahead of Carthage.

The Tigers will participate in the Thad Clements Invitational at Chanute Friday.
