Carolyn Jane Vann

Carolyn Jane Vann, age 73, a resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Monday, April 18, 2016, at the Mercy Hospital in Joplin, Mo. She was born Jan. 5, 1943, in Bourbon County, Kan., the daughter of Izear "Zeb" Harris and Dorothy Jane Vann-Ellsworth. She married Russell L. Vann on Aug. 25, 1962, in Fort Scott. Carolyn had worked as a nurse's aide at Mercy Hospital in Fort Scott for 39 years. She enjoyed watching Royals baseball, playing computer games, watching classic movies and reading.

Survivors include her husband, Russell, of the home; two daughters, Brenda Jean Snow and husband, Johnny, of Lawrence, Kan., and Shelly Lynn Vann, of Chattanooga, Tenn.; and a grandson, Brandon Snow, of Lawrence. Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters, Roma Willard and Eleanor Harris.

Rev. LeRoy Nelson will conduct funeral services at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 27 at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U.S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until service time at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Services are under the direction of the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main, Fort Scott, Kan.
