'Hound baseball splits at Cowley
ARKANSAS CITY -- After dropping the first two games of the series at Lions Field Thursday, Fort Scott Community College's baseball team gained a split against No. 4 Cowley here Saturday in Jayhawk Conference-Eastern Division play.
Cowley (3-1 East, 11-5 overall) won the opener in eight innings, 5-4. Then Fort Scott (1-3, 11-3) won the second game 4-0.
The Greyhounds scored twice in the top of the seventh to take a 4-2 lead in the opener. Cowley tied it in the bottom of the seventh and won in the bottom of the eighth.
Jedd Andrade, Gabe Franklin and Mackay Williams each had 2 of Fort Scott's 11 hits. Bryce Fischer went 4 for 4 for Cowley.
The 'Hounds scored single runs in the top of the second, fourth, fifth and sixth innings of game two. Nick Banman had 3 of Fort Scott's 8 hits. Andrade and Will Baker each had 2.
Matt Hicks (3-0), allowed 4 hits and 2 walks while striking out 7 as he went the distance.
The Greyhounds host the Ottawa University junior varsity this afternoon. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for a 1 p.m. start.
