Bourbon County road workers cut trees and brush to increase visibility on Maple Road, just west of the Fort Scott Livestock Market, Friday morning. Road work will include repaving, widening shoulders, striping, installing signage and drainage to the area, Bourbon County Public Works Director Jim Harris said. The project is being funded with a $350,000 High Risk Rural Roads grant administered by the Kansas Department of Transportation.

The project is on Maple Road from the Fort Scott city limits (Humbolt Street) to 205th Street. The section where Maple Street ends and where Humboldt Street begins is the City of Fort Scott's road.

"The county commission agreed to do some work on Humboldt, an overlay," Harris said. "The grant doesn't take the city's portion."

Bid letting for the project is slated for June, Harris said, with work to be completed by the end of fall.
