Eagle boys fall in semis

PLEASANTON -- Uniontown's boys defeated Altoona-Midway easily in Thursday night's opening round of the Pleasanton Mid-Season Tournament. But the Eagles fell to Richmond-Central Heights in Friday's semifinal round and will play in the third-place game at 1:30 this afternoon against Oswego.

Uniontown's girls lost their first-round game on Thursday to Olathe Heritage Christian but dominated Altoona-Midway on Friday. The Eagles will face or Pleasanton for fifth place at 3 p.m. today.

Thursday: Uniontown boys 54, Altoona-Midway 13.

The Eagles were the tournament's No. 2 seed and drew Altoona-Midway, one of two winless teams on the boys' side of the bracket. Uniontown led 14-2 after one period and shut out the Jets 21-0 in the third period.

Garrett Elder put in 15 points to lead the Eagles. David Bradbury and Ben George each scored 14 points.

Thursday girls: Olathe Heritage Christian 56, Uniontown 51.

The Eagles, the No. 4 seed, led 38-22 at the half after outscoring Heritage Christian 23-10 in the second quarter. But the Chargers dominated the second half, outscoring Uniontown 17-4 in the third and 17-9 in the fourth.

Shalina Harper scored a personal-best 32 points as she made 5 3-point goals for the Eagles. Holly Shinn followed with 12 points and also had 7 rebounds. Ane Dublang had 8 assists.

Kayla Jones led Heritage Christian with 41 points.

Friday boys: Central Heights 42, Uniontown 34.

Central Heights (3-7), which came into the tournament with just one win, controlled the second half, outscoring the Eagles (7-4) by a margin of 21-9.

George led Uniontown with 12 points. The Vikings will play top seed Humboldt for the championship.

Oswego (3-6) will be playing for the third time in 23 hours when it faces the Eagles. The Indians were not able to make the trip Thursday and had to play two games on Friday.

Friday: Uniontown girls 51, Altoona-Midway 9.

Harper scored 20 points for Uniontown (5-6) while Shinn added 14 as the Eagles won easily over winless Altoona-Midway (0-9). Dublang had 6 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists and 6 steals.

The Eagles will face Pleasanton (7-4), the No. 2 seed, which was dropped into consolaton after being upset by Richmond-Central Heights on Thursday.
