Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebacker Lavonte David was named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week by the National Football League.

David, who played at Fort Scott Community College during the 2008-09 seasons, had two interceptions, one for a touchdown, off Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Mark Sanchez in Sunday's 45-17 victory.

The interceptions were David's first two of the season. David became the first Buccaneers linebacker to record multiple two-interception games and now joins Derrick Brooks and Hardy Nickerson as Buccaneers linebackers to win multiple defensive player of the week awards.

The Buccaneers are 5-5 and in third place in the NFC South, one game behind Atlanta. They play at Indianapolis at noon Sunday.

Following his career at FSCC, where he appeared in the 2009 NJCAA National Championship Game, David went on to the University of Nebraska, where he earned All-American accolades.

David was selected by Tampa Bay in the 2012 NFL Draft in the second round. He led all NFL rookies in tackles that season. He was a First Team All Pro in 2013.
