Raiders call on Uniontown for Bi-District match

Tuesday, November 3, 2015

Uniontown is ready for a rare opportunity to host a playoff game tonight when Central-Burden comes to town for an Eight-Man Division I Bi-District Playoff Game. Action begins at 6 p.m. -- one hour earlier than usual -- at the UHS stadium.

The Eagles (9-0) will be hosting a playoff game for the first time since November of 2006, when Uniontown defeated Howard-West Elk, 48-30, in the Bi-District round of the Class 2-1A playoffs. That team went on to finish 9-2 following a Regional round loss at Olpe, 23-6, four days later.

This Uniontown team is 9-0, the best the Eagles have performed since that 2006 season. The Raiders come in with a 7-2 record following a loss at home to West Elk Thursday night, 42-22. The Patriots (9-0) won the District 2 championship and will host District 1 runner-up Marais des Cygnes Valley (6-3) tonight at 6.

The Eagles will also be looking for their first playoff victory since that 2006 win over West Elk. The Eagles lost to Oswego in the Bi-District round in Class 2-1A in 2009 and to Udall in last year's Eight-Man I Bi-District game.

The Raiders' other loss was against the co-op team of Attica/Argonia at Argonia on Sept. 18, a 58-6 defeat. A&A, as it is sometimes known, was last season's State runner-up in Eight-Man Division II, losing 52-8 to Victoria in the finals.

By comparing schedules, it appears that Uniontown has the better defense. The Eagles have surrendered a total of 100 points this season, which averages out to 11.1 per game. They have posted three shutouts. Meanwhile, Central has have allowed almost 29 points per game. Only Rosalia-Flinthills, which finished 0-9, and Oxford, which was 1-8, scored less than 20 points on the Raiders.

The other game to watch in this part of the bracket tonight sees Mankato-Rock Hills (7-2) travel to Burlingame (9-0). Should the Eagles win tonight, they will go on the road to play the winner of that game on Saturday.
