Josephine M. Kemp
Josephine M. Kemp, age 78, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Friday, May 29, 2015, at the Golden Living Center in Pittsburg, Kan. She was born on Dec. 22, 1936, in Cherokee, Kan., the daughter of Frank and Vesta Sells Ruggero. She married Jesse Kemp on June 30, 1957, in Pittsburg, Kan. Besides working in the home, she spent most of her life caring for family, friends and neighbors who required assistance. Josephine was a wonderful cook, her specialty being apple pie and Italian stuffing. She enjoyed camping and attending all the grandkids activities. She loved the spontaneous annual trips the girls cooked up. She will be greatly missed.
Survivors include her husband Jesse of the home; daughters Kathy O'Dell and husband Nick, Fort Scott, Kris Haas and husband Kevin, El Dorado, Kan., Kim Branson and husband Robert, Cleveland, Mo., Melissa Dunkley and husband Eric, Auburn, Wash.; son Kenny Kemp, Joplin, Mo.; as well as Frank, Lynn, Buddy, and Vesta; grandchildren Jeremy Shelton, Jessica Ripper, Jaime Shelton, Ashley Haas, Abby Haas, Kally Branson, Kaitlyn Branson, Kyler Kemp, Isabella Dunkley and five step-grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a brother, Buddy Ruggero; half-brothers, Ernest and James Ruggero; half-sister Lena Dean; and her parents.
Rev. Chuck Russell will conduct funeral services at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, June 4, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Burial will follow in the U. S. National Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday evening at the chapel. Memorials are suggested to the S.E.K.
