Eagle golfers struggle in Regional

PITTSBURG -- Uniontown's golfers struggled mightily here Monday and finished their season at the Colgan Class 2A Regional Golf Tournament with a disappointing team score of 536.

Uniontown's best individual score came from Nick Reynolds, who shot 55 on the front nine and 63 on the back for a total of 118. However, the highest score that qualified for State was 106.

"Our play at Regionals was unlike us," Uniontown head coach Jason Tourtillott said. "I'm not sure if nerves got us a little or just the challenging course exposed our weaknesses that much but our scores don't represent how we played all year.

"I think they realized again how important that first shot is in getting the ball in play. When they got off the tee well they played the hole well. When they got themselves in trouble off the tee, we struggled. I hope they learned a lesson in course management from this experience and will be able to use that next season build off."

Uniontown also saw Dalton Clifton score 64-61--125, Ty Covey shoot 65-69--134 and Cole Rockhold come in with 69-90--159.

"It was a fun year with this group of young men so that made it tougher to watch them struggle," Tourtillott said. "I'm proud of them in the fact they never gave up even after knowing midway it was the end of the road."

The top three teams, which qualify every member, were host Colgan at 311, Kansas City Christian 320 and Olathe Heritage Christian 372.

Bradley Beykirch of Colgan was the individual medalist with his 38-35--73. Nate Streeter of K.C. Christian followed with a 38-37--75.
