Arrest made in alleged connection with infant's death

The Fort Scott Police Department has taken into custody a Fort Scott man in connection with his alleged involvement in the death of a 6-month-old boy.

FSPD officers, along with members of the Fort Scott Fire Department and Mercy EM,S responded to a residence at 309 S. Broadway St., for an accident that took place involving Aiden J. Osborn, according to a news release issued Tuesday by the FSPD.

Osborn had reportedly fallen off a sofa inside the residence and was transported to Mercy Hospital Fort Scott and later flown to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, the release said.

Osborn died at 10:39 p.m. April 28 at Children's Mercy Hospital, the release said.

On Tuesday, FSPD officers arrested Anthony M. Anderson, 21, of Fort Scott, in connection with Osborn's death. According to Southeast Kansas Regional Correctional Center staff, Anderson was brought in at 1:25 p.m. Tuesday on an arrest warrant dated May 5 for murder in the second degree. Anderson was officially booked into the SEKRCC at 2:20 p.m. Tuesday. He was being held on a $1 million cash/surety bond.

FSPD Chief Travis Shelton said Tuesday he could not provide additional information on the case at this time. Shelton said per Bourbon County Attorney Justin Meeks, only information contained in the news release is being released.

Shelton did say the FSPD took part in an investigation of the case. He also said more information may be made available at a later date.

All suspects are considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, the FSPD release said.
