Betty Ellen "Babe" Whipple

Betty Ellen "Babe" Whipple, age 90, a resident of Rose Hill, Kan., died Sunday, March 29, 2015, at the Kansas Medical Center in Andover, Kan. She was born January 12, 1925, in Ft. Scott, Kansas, the daughter of Enf Harris and Carrie Hayden Harris. She was married Clifford Raymond Whipple. During the war years, she had worked as a riveter. Since her husband was a career military man, Betty made her home at various military posts around the United States and overseas.

Survivors include a sister, Carolyn Brown, of Fort Scott as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Her husband preceded her in death on Jan. 27, 1969. She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Pansy and Mary Anne and four brothers, Edward, Russell, Frank and John.

Pastor Tim O'Neil will conduct graveside services at 10 a.m. Friday, April 3 at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Scott. Family and friends may meet at the Cheney Witt Chapel prior to leaving for the cemetery at 9:45 a.m. on Monday. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online tribute wall at cheneywitt.com.
