Kathryn Emma Morrison
Kathryn Emma Morrison, age 83, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died suddenly on Thursday, March 12, 2015, at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Mo. She was born June 18, 1931, in Pawnee Station, Kan., the daughter of Perry and Hazel Picht Keeney. She was raised on the family farm. She graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1949. She married Robert D. "Bob" Morrison on June 25, 1950, in Pawnee Station. They had three children, Linda, Barbara, and Paul. He preceded her in death on Dec. 24, 2011. She worked for The Western Insurance Company and later as a dental receptionist for Dr. Taylor. She loved gardening and always had a gorgeous flowering yard surrounding her gracious home. She was a "mother" to many foreign born students (Luis, Edwin, Ronal, Kumiko and Vicky) who attended Fort Scott Community College. After their attendance at FSCC, they continued to remain close to Kathryn and considered her a second mother. Kathryn was known for her sense of humor and was happiest when surrounded by a houseful of family and friends. She touched many hearts through her vivacious spirit and her neverending desire to stay in touch with all those she loved. She especially adored her grandchildren Christopher and Jennifer. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Walker and husband Dr. Raymond, Garden City, Kan., and Barbara Beugelsdyk and husband Tony, Wichita, Kan.; one brother, Kenneth Keeney, Pawnee Station; a sister, Estalee Simpson, Fort Scott; two grandchildren, Christopher and Jennifer Morrison; daughter-in-law Kim Davenport, Olathe, Kan.; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a son, Paul Morrison, a brother, Donald Keeney; as well as her parents.
There was cremation. Rev. Steven Cole will conduct memorial services at 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at the Cheney Witt Chapel. Private family burial will take place at a later date in the U.S. National Cemetery.
