June Royston

June Royston, 91, of Fort Scott, died Wednesday afternoon, March 4, 2015 at Mercy Hospital. She was born June 3, 1923 in Redfield, Kan., the daughter of Glenn Gilbert and Goldie Ann (Mangold) Ruthrauff. She married John E. Royston in 1943 in Uniontown, Kan., and he preceded her in death Dec. 14, 1988.

June graduated from Uniontown High School, and lived her entire life in the Redfield and Uniontown area. She was a farm wife and also worked for Mercy Hospital as a Nurses Aide for 25 years, the last 10 in the Obstetrics Department. Following her retirement, she volunteered her time and talents as a member of the Mercy Auxiliary. She was a member of the Paint Creek Church of the Brethren, and the Ladies Aide & Quilting Group.

June is survived by her children, Carol Richard of Fort Scott, Martha Guilfoyle, also of Fort Scott, and John E. Royston, Jr., of Cunningham, Kan.; eight grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two great-great grandchildren. In addition to her husband John, June was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Donna Stark and Mary Shank; two sisters, Frances Beasley and Wilma Smith; a brother, Virgil Ruthrauff; a granddaughter, Desiree Royston, and Grandmother Alta Kistler, who helped the family through hard times.

William James Schafer will conduct funeral services 2 p.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Konantz-Cheney Funeral Home with burial following at the Marion-Paint Creek Cemetery.
