Eagle wrestlers compete in first Regional

FREDONIA -- Uniontown High School's wrestling team competed in the first-year program's first Regional Tournament here over the weekend.

The Eagles sent four competitors to the Fredonia Class 3-2-1A Regional, placing 21st.

John Emmerson wrestled at 145 pounds. He drew a first-round bye then was pinned in the quarterfinals by Jacob Sharp of Chase County, who went on to finish second. In consolation, Emmerson pinned Dashon Arnold of Douglass before he was eliminated in overtime by Thomas Yurko of Burlington.

Tommy Joles represented Uniontown at 152 pounds. He was pinned in the first round by Eureka's Braden Lowe. In consolation, he pinned Leaf Howell of Whitewater-Remington, then was pinned by Casey Veith of Cheney.

Brodrick Glessner competed at 160 pounds. He was pinned in the first round by Remington Puter of Marion, who went on to take third place. In consolation, Jake Wessel eliminated Glessner by pin.

Blaine Ross entered the tournament at 182 pounds. He received a first-round bye. Chance Schooler of Richmond-Central Heights, who went on to finish second, pinned Ross in the quarterfinals. Tyson Breshears of Burlington pinned Ross in the second round of consolation.

Fredonia, ranked No. 10 in Class 3-2-1A by the Kansas Wrestling Coaches Association, won the team title with 159 points followed closely by Burlington and Cherryvale, which tied for second with 152 points.
