Donald Lee Spainhoward, age 77, resident of Humboldt, Kan., previously of Uniontown, Kan., died Wednesday, Jan. 28, 2015, at the Neosho Memorial Regional Medical Center in Chanute, Kan. He was born Jan. 2, 1938, in Sheldon, Mo., the son of Virgil and Verna Oxford Spainhoward. He graduated from Uniontown High School with the class of 1955. He married Helen Marie Wittsell on June 17, 1956. She preceded him in death on April 25, 2004. He worked for Western Insurance Company in Fort Scott for 17 years in the printing department. He then attended technical school at PSU and graduated in 1988. He opened Hillside Upholstery shop in Uniontown. Later, he worked for SEKAN Printing in Fort Scott for 13 years. He also drove the school bus for Uniontown schools for three years. Donald enjoyed riding motorcycles and raised horses most of his life. He served on numerous deacon and trustee boards through the years and served as a lay minister in his later years. He loved watching the grandkids play ball. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Humboldt.

Survivors include a son, Scott Spainhoward and wife Marthena, Uniontown; two daughters, Laura Ball and husband Robert, Humboldt, and Janet Gonzolas and husband Phillip, Herington, Kan.; 10 grandchildren, Dawna LeClair, Dwane Griffiths and wife Darlene, Joe Griffiths, Robert Ball, Jr. and wife Briahna, Mitchel Spainhoward and wife Brandi, Luke Spainhoward and wife Jayme, Kaitlin Spainhoward, Benjamin Gonzolas, Alex Gonzolas, And Sarah Gonzolas; nine great grandchildren; brother-in-law Bob Wittsell; sister-in-law, Phyllis Spainhoward; a niece, Susan Schneider and husband Jeff, and nephew Matt Spainhoward. He was preceded in death by two brothers, infant Paul Spainhoward and Tom Spainhoward; and his parents.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 1, at the Cheney Witt Bronson Chapel. Cremation will follow with private family burial later in the Uniontown Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time at the Bronson Chapel.
