Emerson, Joles take seconds at KC-Piper meet

KANSAS CITY, Kan. --

Uniontown High School's wrestling team competed in a tournament hosted by Piper High School here Saturday and emerged with two second-place finishers.

John Emerson took second at 145 pounds. He won all three matches in his preliminary pool. He pinned Nathan Taylor of Meriden-Jefferson West and Austin Markovich of Shawnee-Mill Valley. In between those matches, Emerson took an 11-7 decision from Brandon Lewis of Jayhawk-Linn.

In the championship match, Baxton McCluskey of Kansas City Bishop Ward defeated Emerson by pinfall.

Tommy Joles finished in second place at 152 pounds. In his pool matches, he pinned Pedro Morales of Bishop Ward, Jacob Lee of Piper, Kyle Taylor of Wellsville and Cederick Williams of Hoyt-Royal Valley.

In his championship match, Joles was pinned by Nicholas Reed of Jefferson West.

Brock Glessner finished 1-3 on the day at 160 pounds. He lost to Manny Rodriguez of Bishop Ward, 3-0, and was pinned by Lamar Maltiba of Kansas City-Schlagle in pool matches. He then went to a consolation pool where he was pinned by Dakota Lisolo of Piper and Sean Mason of Atchison Maur Hill Mount Academy.

Blaine Ross was 0-4 at 182 pounds. In pool matches, he was pinned by Bruce Smith of Wellsville, Keegan Adam of Schlagle and Jared Ayers of Mill Valley. He was also beaten in the seventh-place match by Kalin Fergus of Piper by a slim 10-8 margin.

The Eagles will have a almost two weeks off before they compete at Burlingame on February 6.
