Richard Romayne McCalment, age 85, resident of Fort Scott, Kan., died Friday, Nov. 28, 2014, at Fort Scott Manor. He was born Dec. 18, 1928, in Fort Scott, the son of Loren and Mildred McCoy McCalment. He graduated from Fort Scott High School with the class of 1946. He graduated from Pittsburg State University and continued taking college classes throughout life at different institutions. He married Maurine Stroud Odell on June 20, 1950, in Fredonia, Kan. Richard worked as a medical technologist for hospitals in Joplin, Mo., Fairview, N.M., LaJara, Colo., Parsons, Kan., and Satanta, Kan. He finished his career in Fort Scott, retiring from Mercy Hospital. He was a Jack-of-all-trades, but his specialty was woodcarving. He had a unique gift of helping others in any way possible. He was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Fredonia.
